Sacha Coles and John Choi make their first public presentation of their work on the Ultimo Pedestrian Network for client the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority (SHFA).
SACHA COLES // DIRECTOR, ASPECT STUDIOS
Sacha is the National Studios Director and founder of ASPECT Studios Sydney. His focus is to ensure that the studios are recognised as a rigorous design offices, consistently producing high quality work. Sacha has been involved in the planning and design of significant award winning public landscapes locally, nationally and internationally, most notably receiving both the ‘Medal’ and the Sir Walter Burley Griffin award for urban design for Pirrama Park. Over the last 12 years, under his director, ASPECT Studios has received over 30 design awards and he has written and been published widely in relation to the office’s work. Sacha is enthusiastic about advancing the exchange of ideas within landscape architecture and has given talks in Zurich, Beijing, Sydney, Adelaide and New Zealand. In addition, he continues to be involved at Universities such as UNSW, where he is a member of the UNSW Faculty of the Built Environment academic advisory board, UTS, University of Adelaide, Victoria University and Wellington University as an invited critic for graduating studios. He is the immediate past president of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects NSW and is currently on the executive committee.
JOHN CHOI // DIRECTOR, CHOI ROPIHA FIGHERA
John Choi is director and co-founder of Choi Ropiha Fighera. Established in 2000, the practice’s founding design, TKTS, has been widely recognised for its design excellence and innovation, from fields as varied as planning, architecture, branding, public space and tourism. Awards include New York Art Commission Award, World Architectural Festival Award, Jørn Utzon Award for International Architecture, and has been cited as New York’s Building of the Decade. Other key projects include Macquarie Street Tower, Lune de Sang (a private rural estate in the Byron Shire hinterland), Ballast Point Amenities, Manly 2015 Master Plan, Green Square library which was part of 2008 Venice Biennale Traveling Exhibition, and Parramatta Road Strategic Plan. In 2009, the practice received 3 Commendations in AR Award for Emerging Architecture. He is Adjunct Professor of Architecture at University of Sydney and serves on the board of 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art.
